The Harbor Impact Foundation started in 2022 with an idea to build and operate a non-profit, state-of the-art indoor sports facility for children in and around Benton Harbor, while providing vital programming for teen academic success. The facility plans to house six basketball courts that transition to volleyball courts. The foundation will provide travel basketball for underserved youth with programs for players that center around mental health and academic success. Providing these opportunities can create a path to help student athletes achieve their dreams of playing college sports and/or achieving a degree in post-secondary education. Especially for area teens whose families may not have the resources to participate in expensive travel programs or afford extra academic services like SAT prep. The goal with this client was to take all of their ideas, thoughts, goals and dreams for this new non-profit and create solid messaging, and vision, a visual presentation for potential stakeholders, as well as develop earned media and community support.
In addition we were able to work with them in other ways including writing several of their grants including the Frederick S. Upton Foundation 2022 $50,000 Big Idea Grant and a $500,000 grant to AEP go towards their capital campaign. We created fundraising opportunities such as a corporate basketball tournament fundraiser that raised $37k and enjoyed participation from area companies. Lastly, we wrote and distributed all press releases earning stories in regional newspapers, radio and nightly news stations. |
